Method
- Crumble the cake into fine crumbs using your hands or in a food processor. Put into a bowl. In another bowl, beat together the butter and icing sugar until creamy.
- Melt the plain chocolate in the microwave or in a bowl over a pan of barely simmering water. Add the melted chocolate to the butter mixture and combine well. Add this to the cake crumbs and mix thoroughly using your hands, until it sticks together. Divide the mixture into eight and shape each one into a smooth ball. Insert a cake pop stick, place on a tray lined with baking parchment and chill for at least 2 hours.
- Melt the milk chocolate in the microwave or in a bowl over a pan of barely simmering water. Take a cake pop and dip in the chocolate. Shake gently until the excess has drained off. Push into a polystyrene block.
- Make two holes in the top of the head and insert a pretzel 'antler' in each one. Press a sweetie nose onto the front and hold for a few seconds until attached. Repeat with all the other cake pops. Leave to set for about 20 mins and then using black icing, pipe on eyes and a mouth

Discovery bottles
Discovery bottles
encourage the development of
observation skills,
predictability, scientific
concepts, and thinking
skills. Once made and placed in plastic carrying bins, they make a great center
activity that is inexpensive, and fun!
We will be making different coloured
discovery bottles in the classroom so that we learn about Blue. Red, Yellow and
Green.
The Discovery Bottles are NOT TO BE
OPENED!!!! They are just to explore and discover.
More ideas for your discovery bottles!
Dirt Bottle – Add dirt to a bottle, and
fill half of the bottle with water.
Sand Bottle – Fill the bottom of a bottle
with sand. Add water, to shake and see what happens when you shake the
bottle.Mix it up by using colored sand and/or water.
Relaxation Bottle – Add a small package of
confetti to the bottom of the bottle. Fill the bottle with syrup or gel and
water. It is a very relaxing experience to watch the glitter float and flutter
as you gently turn the bottle.
Magnetic Shavings Bottle –
Fill the bottle with magnetic shavings or pipe cleaners. Attach a magnet to the
top of the bottle with yarn. Observe the shavings or pipe cleaners move through
the bottle as you rub the magnetic wand over the side of the bottle.
Wave Bottle – Fill half of the bottle with
oil (cooking or baby), add water to fill the bottle 3/4 of the way. Add blue
food colouring, and seal the lid with glue. As you turn the bottle on its side,
the waves roll gently.
Desert Bottle – Add small plastic desert
animals such as lizards, snakes, etc. to an empty bottle. Fill 2/3 of bottle
with sand. As children turn or shake the bottle they can see animals that live
in the desert.

Rhythm and Rhyme
The rhythm of songs, poems and rhymes help children to remember the words and helps to develop auditory memory skills.
Listening is an important skill to encourage - and it is an important step towards one day learning to read.
Since many nursery rhymes and stories also include mathematical concepts, like counting, time, height, measurement, position, volume, weather, temperature etc ... they can be used as opportunities to develop vocabulary around these concepts.
This month we are going to learn the story of goldilocks and the three bears where we are going to continue learning about concepts like small, medium and large.

Our Lady of Sorrows
Mary was Jesus's mother. Tomorrow is a feast to remind us that when the bad soldiers took Jesus to put him on the cross, Our Lady was very sad. Next week, we will remember the day when Jesus died on the cross, but on Easter Sunday we will all be very happy that Jesus will rise again!
Easter cooking activity
A new take on a spring tradition, these mini baskets are fun for kids — and they add a bright touch to your table.
To make them: Fill ice cream cones with jelly beans. With a small knife, carefully cut two holes into the sides of each cone. Tuck either end of an apple licorice stick into the holes to serve as an edible handle.

Maths Week
Developing number concepts at an early age is very important in developing positive attitudes about mathematics in the future years. Special methods and activities will help children to develop early numeracy skills. These methods include the use of motivating and engaging concrete materials that children can manipulate. Young children need to experience a lot of 'doing' and 'saying' before written numbers will make sense to them.
