The topic- in the garden is a very entertaining topic for children in Kindergarten. It is very important for them to learn about the environment around us : how trees and plants grow and about the lovely insects we can find. This will help them to appreciate nature  more and learn how to take care and respect it.

We are going to focus a lot about the life of a growing seed.

The parts of a flowering plant are an important scientific concept that will be explored in future school topics too.  At this level, it's important that children of this age understand the function of petals, roots, and leaves.

There are also many beautiful little creatures we can find in the garden :

Bees

ladybirds

butterflies

caterpillars

Garden sensory bin

Since we're learning about the garden, I also introduced a garden sensory bin. It's a great way for the children to experience some gardening with rakes and spades. You can also investigate flowers and stones. Not everyone wanted to explore the potting mix's texture at first - Now they love it!

Flower activities

Flower Sponge Printing and pre-writing the stem and leaves -

This activity helped the children reinforce their paintbrush handling and making a horizontal line. Some children realised that the stem was like the number 1 and that painting the leaves made it look like a cross.

Colouring a sunflower and making a collage -
This activity helped the children reinforce their tripod grasp while colouring the flower and then they started exploring the different lentils texture.  This activity was a continuation of yesterday's story "The small small seed" and a good opportunity to repeat the parts of a flower in Maltese - fjura, petali, weraq, xitla.

Eggshell collage

Use food coloring to colour crushed eggshells. Use a few different colours. (You can use eggshells from eggs you have used. There is no need to hard boil these egg shells.) Let your child glue the eggshells to a piece a paper, after the dye has dried.
